Social Distancing 101

You might have been hearing these two words going around lately – Social Distancing. In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, governments are encouraging their citizens to stay home and to practice social distancing while outside, be it queuing up to make payment or having a meal at your favourite restaurant. This measure aims to reduce the chances of disease transmission and slowing down the spread of the virus, eventually preventing a country’s healthcare system from being overloaded. ?▫️▫️?

There are many ways to practice social distancing –

  1. Avoid large gatherings

Gatherings of more than 10 people and above will significantly increase the chances of transmission among the group. Since the virus will take around 14 days to show its symptoms, it is best to avoid gatherings during this period as you will not know if someone has been infected or not. In addition, major events have been postponed or cancelled, which signifies the importance of avoiding a large crowd. ?? 

  • Stay 6 feet / 1 meter away from a person

This is the recommended distance by governments to keep away from the person in front or behind you. Keeping this best practice in mind will allow one to be a socially responsible citizen and prevent the spread of the virus. Instead of squeezing onto the train during the rush hour, you can consider taking a walk home if you live nearby or to take a private car home. ?‍?‍?‍??

  • Work remotely

Many companies have been introducing remote working and it is something that should be implemented if possible. If you are planning to work remotely, you will be able to plan your own schedule and work from the comfort of your home.   • Take away food or order delivery

Eateries and restaurants have been implementing social distancing by marking out tables and chairs which should not be occupied. This will lead to a reduced number of seats available, thus it would be best to have the food take away or delivered to you. Do bring along your recyclable box or Tupperware box while taking away the food to save the environment too!

  • Minimise your visits to barbers, salons, gyms or spas

These places are of high contact points, and it will increase the chances of you getting the virus. For instance, someone with the virus sneezed while in the toilet of the gym. Unknowingly, you touched the same surface a few minutes later. This might result in you contracting the virus. Therefore, by reducing your visits to these places, you will be able to protect yourself and your loved ones from getting the virus. ???

Social distancing is a measure that will flatten the COVID-19 curve. These small actions might not seem like much to you, but it will certainly have an impact as a whole.     Ive been making ordering take out since its been allowed again. Ordered some delicious spicy chicken noodles. Im taken back to my happy place now.

    Awesome article! So informative….It’s important to remember that even if the lockdown and quarantine is lifted, we have to keep taking these precautions. Only then can we defeat this pandemic!!!

    We will have to keep taking these precautions until the vaccine is developed unfortunately. That is the only way to stay safe from the pandemic if that is possible to do. These are very good tips though and thanks for sharing.
