Tips to Reduce your Metabolism

How to Increase Your Metabolism: Actionable Tips

December 1, 2017

Effective weight loss is a result of a higher metabolism. The following are six guidelines as to how you can achieve a higher metabolism!

Drink More Water

Your body works harder to warm up after drinking cold water. And did you know: if you are even mildly dehydrated, you are slowing down your body’s metabolism.

Eat Fibre-rich Foods

Eating foods rich in fiber will ensure that your digestive system is working as it should be. It also gets rid of unnecessary toxins. Your body, in turn, burns through calories quicker.

Be More Active

If you are active already, for example, you are walking, you do regular hikes etc… kick it up a notch. Push yourself further each time, challenge your body. Doing the same thing all the time just accustoms your muscles to the same movement and that’s why you don’t see any progress. When I feel my body plateauing I tend to maintain the same workout routine for 2 weeks, then for 3 days I will do a completely new workout routine just to shock it. It puts your metabolism on another level.

Ways to Improve Metabolism

If You Are Hungry, Eat

Nothing increases metabolism like eating regularly. Eat the RIGHT things. Don’t suppress your hunger. It just puts your body fat into storage mode. The more you eat the more you burn. It’s a neverending cycle. And a toned body is the side-effect.

Drink Coffee Prior To Working Out

…I am not a coffee drinker. I have never ever been someone who drank anything besides my smoothie or water. But there were a few days during the last month where I performed an experiment. I had coffee just before a run or before a gym workout. After these exercises, I looked as if I had been SWIMMING. I mean generally, I sweat a lot. But the coffee just put me into walking steam room mode. I suppose it really has this effect if you are not a regular caffeine consumer. It’s like a drug for me. I was literally shaking on the days that I had it, therefore it is not something I will do often. But it definitely gave me that extra burn factor. I know. Because I can see it in my painstakingly slowly disappearing love handles. (Love handles???!!!wtf I didn’t even have those pre-pregnancy!!!)

Wear Sweat Enhancing Clothing While Working Out

Till the sweat, till the sweat, skeet skeet. Nothing makes me feel fresher than taking a cold shower after a sweat flooding session. And like I mentioned before the love-handles issue…this is not something I can ALLOW in my life. I cant afford R700 on a sweat enhancing top because I am on a saving mission. It just doesn’t make sense. Sooooo (look here you cant judge, you just can’t) I wrapped cling wrap around my tummy prior to running. Prior to my cardio workouts. I repeat: I wrapped cling wrap around my tummy prior to running. That’s a bit disarming to admit. But woooop, there it is. Increase the sweat factor = increase metabolism = burn more = weight loss = healthy body weight.

Be happy and healthy ya’ll. Don’t forget to wear your superfly sporting gear: Adidas, Nikes, First Ascent, Puma ….and CLING WRAP. #respect

I love that you mention it’s ok to eat if you’re hungry. many people go to the extreme of starving themselves, and that’s not healthy

Yes, coffee is a great one. Coffee drinkers tend to burn more calories and shed more pounds as a result because of the fact that they drink it in the morning and that gets the fire going for the day. That is just one of the many reasons to love coffee really.
