5 More Skincare Tips to Get you Through Summer

February 3, 2020

You already know that your skin care needs change right along with the change in seasons and that you should rotate your products accordingly. But what does that mean, exactly? Here are a few easy skin care hacks to make sure your skin is clear and glowing all year long.

Summer Skincare Tips

Lighten Up!

Summer is the time to make sure your skincare routine is light and easy. This goes for everything from your cleanser and moisturizer all the way to your makeup. If you regularly use a heavy cream cleanser, warmer weather might mean you switch it up to a light foaming face wash instead. And yes, you still need to moisturize, even if your skin is feeling heavy and sweaty. Choose a light moisturizer that also has SPF so you can combine those steps and hydrate your skin while adding some sun protection at the same time.

Skip the Hot Shower

Hot water can be overly drying to the skin, especially in the summertime, when many of us take multiple showers per day. Water that is too hot can damage the outer layer of our skin, inhibiting it from locking in moisture like it’s supposed to. Try taking a quick cold water shower to tighten skin and, bonus, help your hair look shinier!

Add a Face Mist to your Routine

One of the best, most refreshing products you can add to your summertime skincare regimen? A facial mist! You can use a face mist throughout the day to hydrate and give your skin a little refresh. Think: after swimming or bathing, after sun-exposure, after a workout, etc. There are so many times your skin could use a little pick-me-up and a facial mist is there to keep your skin balanced and calm.

Use a Vitamin C Serum

Another great addition to your summer skincare routine is a good vitamin C serum since you’ll most likely be upping your sun exposure. Along with extra sun time comes an increase in free radicals, yeah, the ones who contribute to premature ageing. The antioxidant capabilities of vitamin C help combat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as prevent hyperpigmentation, lighten dark spots and play an important role in collagen synthesis.

Stay Hydrated!

This one is important all year long, but especially so in the summer months when the weather is hotter. Stay hydrated! Water is important for all of your body’s vital processes but it plays a special role in the health and appearance of your skin. Get an adequate amount of water each day to keep skin hydrated, maintain elasticity, lessen the appearance of pores, and give your face an overall healthy glow.

Don’t spend too much time in the sun either. Those UV rays will cause your skin to age too early, and you don’t want that to happen. That is why they say the best times to spend outdoors are before 10am and after 4pm when the UV rays are weaker.
